The Constant Lovers

Six for Gold track 2

From the singing of the Copper Family of Rottingdean, Sussex. The song goes under a number of titles including My Love is Gone and, rather bizarrely, The forsaken mermaid.

The late Gordon Hall from Horsham sang a parody of this song in which the young woman’s fall from the clifftop is broken when “a bloody big bramble snagged up in her drawers”. There she hangs, until spotted from the sea by her true love, news of whose death had also been greatly exaggerated.
