Gabriel’s Message

The 25th Track 3

A traditional carol from the Basque country, loosely translated into English towards the end of the nineteenth century by West Country parson, hymn-writer and folk song collector, the Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould.

The Basque original was collected by musician, composer and scholar Charles Bordes, and appeared as the first item in his Douze Noëls Populaires, part of the series Archives de la tradition basque, 1895.
