Christmas Carousing

The 25th Track 6

Chris Leslie appeared on our first three albums, and played as part of the band at most of our early concerts. When we were looking for winter-themed tunes, Chris went through his tune books and put some possible material down on tape. These included Christmas Carousing and the Mummers’ Jig & Reel. The first tune was collected as ‘A Mhsig a chur an nolig oirn’ and included in The Skye collection of the best reels & strathspeys extant by Keith Norman Macdonald (1887). The Mummers’ tunes are almost certainly from Wexford – a hotbed of mumming – and were published in The Darley & McCall Collection of Irish Music (1914).
