Lovely Elwina

Three Quarter Time track 11

Lovely Elwina sets a romantic encounter against the backdrop of the Battle of Waterloo. It’s another one from Roy Palmer’s Folk Songs collected by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The composer noted this one down, some 89 years after the battle, from Mr Leary, a native of Hampshire, but then living in Almshouses in Salisbury.

Followed by Waterloo.

With Toby Goss - clarinet.

You can find a solo version of this song at A Folk Song A Week Week 199 – Lovely Elwina.
