One of the classics of English traditional song, we had already recorded Shepherd Hayden's version of John Barleycorn on our first CD, The Oxford Ramble. This version was recorded as recently as 1975 from Charlie Hill of Spreyton, Devon, but the words have been in circulation in the oral tradition since around 1600.
