Speed the Plough track 18

The Robber Bird track 3

From Roy Palmer’s Folk Songs collected by Ralph Vaughan Williams. It’s a glorious love song, collected from David Penfold, landlord of the Plough Inn at Rusper, Surrey in 1907. Vaughan Williams made a phonograph recording of Mr Penfold singing this song, and you can now hear that recording on the British Library Sound Archive website.

On Speed the Plough, played as an instrumental by Di Whitehead (cello) and Chris Leslie (violin); followed by Bobbing Joe.

On The Robber Bird, sung by Sophie Thurman accompanied by Jon, Mat and Andy.
