Peter Kennedy

A major, though controverisal, collector of songs and tunes, who built up a vast and important archive from the 1950s. As presenter of the BBC folk music programme As I Roved Out in the 1950s he was one of the first to make recordings of traditional singers available to the public at large.

Following his death, Topic Records acquired his sound recordings, and has begun to release some of these on CD as part of its Voice of the People series.

We have learned several songs from Peter Kennedy's recordings, and/or from his massive book Folk Songs of Britain and Ireland, published by Cassell in 1975.
